I love my wife's hardworking spirit

I love my wife's hardworking spirit.

My wife sometimes just doesn't stop. It can frustrate and annoy me, but, really, I wouldn't have her any other way. I don't think our life would be anywhere close to where we are now if my wife wasn't so hardworking. I can get lazy. My nature state is to get lazy, but my wife just keeps going.

We strike a good balance, I know when to rest and take it easy and she knows when we JUST HAVE to get things done.

I know that our family will never lack anything because of my wife's hardworking spirit.

I love my wife.

I love my wife!

I love my wife.

I know I haven't written about my wife in a while, but that does not mean that I don't love her :)

Life has been a bit busy. And my precious daughter has been our focus. Nevertheless, I will restart writing about my love for her and why I love her. So stay tuned.

I LOVE my wife.

I love that my wife is an awesome mom

I know that it is hard to be a working mom. I know it's hard to "have" to be a two income family and only see your child for a little while in the morning and only a couple of hours in the evening during the week. I know it's hard to have to wake up with the baby and then go to work the next day. But my wife does it and more.

She just adores our precious little one and does everything for her. She is looking for a job closer to home with more flexible hours so that she can be with our little angel more often. It is so awesome to hear Eliya calling "mommie"! (She learnt that one on her own, because we always use the term "mama")

That only comes when you are an awesome parent to your child (yeah, now try to define "awesome parent"). When your child shows love to you and wants to be with you, that's my definition of awesome. And my wife is an awesome mom.

I love my wife.

I love my wife's lunches

I love my wife's lunches.

My wife is so sweet. We've been very stress lately. My wife's back at work. We are trying to pay two mortgages. We're trying to pay our bills. We're trying to find a tenant for our old apartment. We're trying to do some renovations at our triplex. We're trying to have time with each other and our daughter. We're trying to maintain our household (cleaning, etc...). We're trying to serve in our local church. It makes like a tad hectic.

Yet, my wonderful wife still finds time to pack me my lunch. I don't ask her to. In fact, this past week I've felt very nauseated that I've skipped lunch most days. Yet, there she is packing it. And she doesn't just pack some leftovers from the night before. I'll always find some fruit, maybe a yogourt, and--if we have it in the house--a piece of chocolate. She is so wonderful.

For example, today she went as far as to make tuna salad (though we have lots of leftovers). She kept the lettuce, tomato, and bread separate, so that it doesn't get soggy. And I have a mini Mars bar. She is just awesome.

I know there's probably tons of wives and mothers who do this... but to me, with everything we have going on, this is really special to me.

I love my wife's lunches.

I love my wife's efforts

It's been a while since I have written anything, but it does not mean that I have stopped loving my wife.

I am so thankful for my wife. Lately, I love the efforts she has made to show me love and to "change" the things that annoy me. In fact, I think she's doing a better job at changing herself than I am at changing myself. Too often we do not recognize our loved ones' efforts because we are constantly with them and so we do not always see the small changes. But I have recognized Cindy's efforts. I recognize her efforts to spend time with me doing "nothing" (like sit on the couch and watch a movie or a TV show)... and if you know Cindy, you know how hard it is for her to do nothing :)

My wife is awesome, and I love her!

I love my wife's perseverance

I love my wife's perseverance.

We have a wonderful baby. She is so adorable. She is so cute (not just in my eyes... that's what others say). She eats well. She's even starting to communicate with us.

However, she's been suffering with thrush. And then, there are moments when nothing we do soothes her, and she cries for a couple of hours (I'm sure some of that is the pain from the thrush).

Now, I can handle it for a bit, but I do lose it after a while. (and to anyone who would call "child protection", I don't lose it on her... but I do have to walk away and get some quiet)

However, my wife has been a rock. The thrush has infect her breasts, and she has been having pain, especially when breastfeeding. But she's been sticking with it. No postpartum. My wife is a trooper. I try to help as much as I can, but I'm sure without my wife's persevering attitude, we may have given up a long time ago.

It encourages me so much to see my wife not give up.

I love my wife's perseverance.

I love my wife's thoughtfulness

I love my wife's thoughtfulness.

We have not been on a real vacation for almost 2 years. The last one was for the thanksgiving long weekend in 2003. We've taken some days off and a weekend off here and there. But, we've really been going full-tilt at work, at home and at church.

This past weekend, we decided to make it a four day long weekend. We went away for two nights, and the other two nights we spent at home, but we kept the phone unplugged. And did that do us some good! We just spent time with each other, talking and walking. We tried not to think about or talk about work, renovations or even church "duties". It was awesome.

And the greatest thing about it, Cindy planned it all! She planned things I'd love to do (we went to Park Safari... great fun). We played mini golf. We watched a movie (Million Dollar Baby--though I'm not sure I really like the message that was being presented). We ate (Sushi, big breakfasts, brunch buffet, picnics)!!! And we simply rested, which is what I needed more than anything else.

I am just so thankful to Cindy for all the work she put into organizing this!

I love my wife.

I love that my wife is organized

I have trouble staying organized. I have a desire to be, but frustration or busyness sets in, and I lose it. My wife on the other hand is an organization superstar. But I don't mean with a desk layout or such. What I am talking about is keeping dates and tasks, and remembering them. We have a number of renovations we have to do in the house, and Cindy is all over them... Almost to the point of annoying me because I am so lost and frustrated in them. But I love her for that!

I don't know if I would get much done without her. She even sees things I miss, and adds it to the organized list of tasks and dates. One solid example I can give is, in the past, I would often miss bill payments, just because I would lose track of them. With Cindy, we have never missed a payment yet, except for one phone bill, and the only reason for that was something big happened in our family that took our attention away from that measly bill.

I love my wife.

I love that my wife will be the mother of my children

Maybe this is weird... But I want everyone to know that I believe Cindy is going to be a super mother. I don't know if most people even think about that when they are dating someone, and they start to get serious about their relationship. I wonder if couples that get engaged even REALLY think about if their partner will make a good parent.

Sure, we all need to learn and grow and mature... It's just a thought.

Regardless of others, I know my wife is going to be awesome (and I hope that I am equally as good a father). I'm excited to start to grow my family with my wife, and experience all the adventures of parenthood with her. I can't even imagine a better partner than her!

I love my wife.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday Sweetheart.

When I think about the last 3 years of marriage, and then realize that we still have a whole life time together (we're both young ;) ... I'm just so thankful to be part of your life, and I am excited to see what the next 10 (and on) years have in store for us together.

May this next year be a year of new beginnings for many of your dreams. And may the blessings of God chase you down!

I love my wife's attempts to show me love

This past Sunday, my wife bought me some shoes. Now, I don't need shoes... I bought a really nice pair of dress shoes less than two months ago... And they were too big... But I really appreciate the fact that she thought about buying me something.

The reason I'm writing this is because, at first, I didn't react properly. I was actually a little annoyed, because I want her to buy herself some shoes. She REALLY needs them. In spite of how I reacted at first, I really do love that my wife tries to show me love all the time and in so many varying ways.

I need to do something to show her how much I love her... I gotta go :)

I love my wife.

I love that I need my wife

Need... That is often a dangerous word in our society. Thoughts of codependency come to mind. And, what, with our whole women's lib movement, equality, self-sufficiency, and "me-me-me-" attitudes, "need" is almost a curse word. (OK, so I'm being a little melodramatic, but hopefully you get my point)

However, as I thought about what I loved about my wife yesterday, this is the idea that kept coming back. I need my wife. Now, before you think I'm some spineless, momma's boy who can't even dress himself in the morning (which btw I did do all by myself today, thank you :), let me explain what I mean.

It is a fact that in North America about 50% of all marriages end in divorce. That's some serious stats looming over you as you decide to marry someone. Of course, no one plans to fail; no one plans to get divorced. But, it happens. What many marriage counsellors, psychologists, and whoever else studies this stuff have found is that, at least part of the problem, comes from our cultural view that independence and self-centeredness is important to you becoming a normal productive person. Now, you are probably saying to yourself that independence and self-centeredness are not the same thing. And, yes, I know that when you use the word self-centeredness, it seems so negative, but independence seems to be positive... but really, they are essentially the same thing. Here are dictionary definitions of the two words, and yes, though we try to give independence that positive spin, they both essentially mean that you do what you want to do (Emphasis added).
Independence = The state or quality of being independent; freedom from dependence; exemption from reliance on, or control by, others; self-subsistence or maintenance; direction of one's own affairs without interference.
Self-centeredness = Engrossed in oneself and one's own affairs; selfish

When we enter that marriage relationship--and in fact any relationship really, though most other relationships do not have the same intimacy or reprecussions after a break-up as a marriage does--we are essentially saying that I am putting aside my own agenda and my own wants, so that our relationship can grow. That does not mean that we never get our way. Neither does it mean that we must serve the other person to the point of abuse. Of course not. But it is a mystery of life that when we willingly give ourselves to someone else, and serve their needs first, it WILL and it DOES come back to us.

What triggered this thought was an article I read by Dr. W.F. Harley Jr., a leading marriage counsellor and author of "His Needs, Her Needs." The funny thing is, I didn't get through the whole article... yet it got me thinking about this whole idea of need.

Whether we like it or not, we do need each other. Society could not function without one another. Our communities could not function without other people. No matter how much we want to be left alone, we really do need other people in our lives. I, personally, would go crazy if I had to cook and prepare three meals a day AND go to work for 8 hours AND wash my clothes AND clean my house AND maintain my car AND cut my grass AND trim my hedges AND take out the garbage AND setup my own server so that I can use the internet (which actually makes no sense without other people anyway) AND build and design the computers that I use at work AND... I think you get the point. Without other people, we couldn't do much.

"But that's just our materialistic-consumer-oriented society." OK, what if we were "self-sufficient" farmers of old. We would have to plant, tend and harvest our crops. How many could you handle? How much would you have to plant to feed yourself for a year? Would we keep animals for milk? for meat? for eggs? What about the winter? Ultimately, I don't know many farmers who do all the work themselves.

Now, I'm not saying that if you built a shack in the woods that you would die of starvation. Yes, there's plenty on God's green earth for us to eat. But our lives would feel empty and unfulfilled. This is getting to the point!

The Bible often describes the Church as a body, with Jesus Christ as the head. To Christians, God, Jesus, is our ultimate source, yet we still need each other, like a body needs all its parts. A finger cannot live on its own apart from the rest of the body, nor can a heart survive separated from the rest of the body (modern technology aside :).

I don't know why God made it that way, but we need each other. We are not all talented and gifted in the same way. Horror to everyone if I had to sing opera or develop Windows. We would be in very big trouble... and our ears would bleed with pain! We do need others to help us through some of our problems. We do need others to give us wise counsel when we are making major decisions for our lives. We do need others to comfort us when we are in pain. We do need others to sharp and challenge us to continue growing into the people we were always meant to be.

And how much more is this true than with the person you marry. I don't believe in coincidences. I believe that when you go to marry a person, it is NOT just because you love them, but you see something in them that you need. Sure there are people that can fill certain needs at various times and circumstances. But there is only one person who can fill the most essential needs in your life... and that is your spouse!

And when I look at my needs (Dr. harley lists 10 needs that seem to be the most important ones to most couples: Affection, Sexual Fulfillment, Conversation, Recreational Companionship, Honesty and Openness, Physical Attractiveness, Financial Support, Domestic Support, Family Commitment, and Admiration ) I know that my wife is the only one that can fulfill all these needs. Though we are still growing, and we've been married for only two years, I see already that only she can fill these needs to overflowing in our lifetime. There may be other people who can fill in a need here or there, but never to the full extent that my wife can. And this means, that as long as I need her (which I do every day), we will hold true to our marriage vows to be together until "death do us part".

I love that I need my wife!
